はじめまして！きゆな牧場の喜友名慶子と申します。(写真左)

沖縄県北部の大宜味村(おおぎみそん)という場所で、牧場を営んでいます。

私たちの牧場がある大宜味村は沖縄県本島北部のやんばると言われる地域で、那覇空港からは62km、車で2時間という距離にある自然豊かな山の奥に位置しています。

I run a ranch in Ogimi Village in the northern part of Okinawa Prefecture.

Ogimi Village, where our ranch is located, is in the Yanbaru region in the northern part of the main island of Okinawa Prefecture, 62 km from Naha Airport, which is only a two-hour drive, deep in the mountains rich in nature.

そんな大宜味村で私たち家族は、「酪農教育ファーム」である、きゆな牧場を運営しています。

酪農教育ファーム、というのは農業体験の中で自然や動物たちと触れ合い、そこで働く人達との交流を通して、子ども達の生きる力を育む牧場のことです。

現在、身近で動物を見ることや触れ合う機会が少なく、子供達の感性を育てるチャンスがすくなくなり、大人もストレスの多い社会になりました。私は、癒しの場所を提供することを通して、少しでも社会に貢献できるシステムを造りたいと、10年前から考えておりました。

これまでのきゆな牧場の取り組みについて

●牧場でとれたミルクでソフトクリームやパン作り

きゆな牧場でとれたミルクの美味しさをより多くの方々にお届けできるよう、ソフトクリームやパンをつくり、販売を行っています。

また、オープンファームの際にはバターづくり体験なども行い、人々が楽しみながら酪農に関われる機会をつくっています。

We make and sell soft-serve ice cream and bread so that more people can enjoy the delicious taste of the milk produced at Kiuna Farm.

We also offer hands-on butter making experiences during open farm days, creating opportunities for people to get involved in dairy farming while having fun.

酪農の現状と課題

私たち、きゆな牧場も酪農をはじめて36年になりました。しかし、状況は厳しくなる一方です。

全国農業新聞、食農耕論の中で東京大学大学院教授の鈴木氏は以下のような説明をしています。

・全国107戸の酪農家に対する調査では98%の酪農家が赤字状態にあり、6割が離農を検討している。

・13.7万トンという莫大な輸入乳貿易の傍ら、国内の酪農家は強制的減産要請による牛乳廃棄や、牛の処分という事態が起こっている。

酪農産業丸ごと全体赤字の異常事態の中で今できることは牛のゴハンのお金を6次産業で稼ぐことしか思いつきません。

国や県はこの異常事態も気づいても、現実は何も変わってはいません。

だから、私たちは自分たちでできる最大限の努力とアイデアで、山と牛を守りたいのです。

Current Situation and Issues in Dairy Farming

It has been 36 years since we, Kiuna Farm, started dairy farming. However, the situation is getting tougher and tougher.

In the National Agricultural Newspaper, Mr. Suzuki, a professor of the Graduate School of the University of Tokyo, explains the situation as follows.

According to a survey of 107 dairy farms in Japan, 98% of them are in the red and 60% are considering leaving the dairy industry.

While imports of milk are huge (137,000 tons), domestic dairy farmers are forced to reduce milk production and dispose of their cows.

In this abnormal situation where the entire dairy industry is in the red, the only thing I can think of that can be done now is to earn money for cows’ food through the 6th industry.

Even though the national and prefectural governments are aware of this abnormal situation, nothing has changed in reality.

So, we want to protect the mountains and cows with the maximum effort and ideas we can do on our own.

プロジェクトの詳細

今年で酪農教育ファームをはじめて25年となりました。

先述したように酪農の状況が厳しい中、これまできゆな牧場を応援してくれていた皆さんと一緒に、より多くの人々と手を取り合ってこれからのきゆな牧場、「みんなの牧場」をつくっていきたいと思っています。

そのために、まずは今協力してくれているボランティアスタッフの生活環境を改善したいと考えています。

This year marks 25 years since we started our dairy educational farm.

As mentioned above, the situation of dairy farming is difficult, but we would like to work together with everyone who has supported Kiuna Farm and with more people to create the future of Kiuna Farm, “Everyone’s Farm”.

In order to do so, we would like to first improve the living environment of the volunteer staff who are currently cooperating with us.

ボランティアスタッフの宿泊施設は喫緊で修繕が必要であり、世界中から集まって日々「みんなの牧場」の実現のために頑張ってくれている彼等のため、快適な環境を造りたいと思っています。

また、現在6次産業化を目指して多くの人がバターづくり体験やソフトクリームを食べに来てくれている体験ハウスには10人程度の部屋があります。しかし、より多くの人に酪農の素晴らしさを伝えるためには広い体験施設が必要です。

さらに、現在の施設には段差があるため、身体にハンディを抱えたお客様の受入も考えて、施設を改修する必要があります。

今は、私も７０代、経済的にも、体力的にも、ラストチャンスと思い、グランドファンディングにチャレンジする事を決心しました。

The accommodations for volunteer staff are in urgent need of repair, and we would like to create a comfortable environment for them, who come from all over the world and work hard every day to make “Everyone’s Farm” a reality.

In addition, there is room for about 10 people in the experience house where many people are currently coming to experience making butter and eating soft-serve ice cream with the aim of achieving 6th industrialization. However, in order to convey the wonders of dairy farming to more people, we need a larger hands-on facility.

Furthermore, since the current facility has steps, we need to renovate the facility to accommodate guests with physical handicaps.

Now that I am in my 70s, I have decided to take on the challenge of grand funding, thinking that this is my last chance, both financially and physically.

きゆな牧場が目指す6次産業

私たちはボランティアスタッフの方々や農業体験をしてくださるお客様をはじめとする、「人を受け入れる施設」をここにつくりたいと思います。ここで、沖縄の文化を楽しみ、無農薬野菜を作り、牛乳スムージーなどで、心も体も健康な生活を味わってほしいのです。

体験ハウス、宿泊場（キャンプ場を含む）などに宿泊すれば、朝、牛が放牧地から、戻ってくる風景を見ることができます。

今度、4女の家族が後継者として、1月移りすむことになり、私の牧場を継続する事で、「みんなの牧場」が実現できれば、私と夫は、夢を彼らに繋ぐことになります。いつか、皆さんと、ここでお会いできるチャンスをとても楽しみにしています。

Kiuna Farm aims to be a 6th industry

We want to create a “facility that welcomes people” here, including volunteer staff and customers who experience agriculture. We want people to enjoy Okinawan culture, grow pesticide-free vegetables, and enjoy a healthy lifestyle with milk smoothies.

If you stay at the experience house or lodging (including campsites), you will be able to see cows returning from pasture in the morning.

My fourth daughter’s family will be moving to the ranch in January as her successor, and if we can realize “a ranch for everyone” by continuing my ranch, my husband and I will be able to pass on our dream to them. I look forward to the chance to meet you all here someday.

私は5人の娘をここで育てました。子供たちはすくすくと素直でやさしい子になり、母親になり、今は自分の子育てを頑張っています。

【これまでの活動】

酪農をスタートしてから36年。（昭和６２年）、夫婦と子供４人（後で1人産まれる）で、新天地大宜味村で牧場を始めました。

夫はいつも、ここに仕事で手伝いに来る人に対し、「自分の牧場だと思って働いて」と言っていました。

そして私はいつも、自分の子供たちには仕事を強制するのではなく、彼女らの意思も考慮しながら手伝ってもらっていました。

こうして、家族、みんなで一緒に、きゆな牧場をつくり上げていったのです。
