The future’s protagonists are today’s children

A challenge is beginning—one that takes children’s voices seriously.

What we will do: Over the next 10 years, we will invite 100 million children to draw their “ideal society.” We will collect these drawings as “voices,” analyze them carefully, and translate the insights into policy and business so that the next generation’s aspirations become the foundation of society.

Implementers: General Incorporated Association SackOmi, International Organizations, and engaged adults.

Purpose of this project: As the first step of this bold challenge, we aim to raise activity funds for Japan and Africa and find partners who will help spread this movement together.

Introduction: Moving society with children’s aspirations

How many of us adults can confidently picture a future to which we can proudly hand over the baton?

Amid mounting social challenges, we are being asked what we can do for the next generation. The future belongs not to us, but to the children who are living now.

That is why we believe our task is to listen seriously to what kind of society children want, and to build a society that places their aspirations at its core.

We are working with international partners such as UNDP to take on an unprecedented mission: to have 100 million children draw their ideal society in ten years. Through these drawings, we will analyze values and hopes, and build mechanisms that enable adults to change society toward the future children truly want.

Together with UNDP and JICA, we also hosted initiatives such as AFRICA DAY at the Expo venue in May.

Who We Are: Sako × Omi → SackOmi

We are SackOmi, founded by Oussouby Sako and Masataka Omi.

Our partnership began with “Urahoro Style,” a child-centered community project in Urahoro, Hokkaido. When municipal leaders from Mali visited through a JICA program, Sako—then a university president in Japan—was inspired by how seriously the town took children’s ideas.

Across cultures, we shared one conviction: when adults truly receive children’s ideas and grow their ownership, the future gets built.

In February 2025, we founded SackOmi to connect Japan and Africa and to scale this model.

What we do: children draw their ideal society → adults receive, analyze, and research those voices → we implement the results through new projects and policy proposals. To begin with many of you, we’re launching crowdfunding.

The origin: “Urahoro Style” in Hokkaido

This is not a pipe dream. For about 20 years in Urahoro (population ~4,500), Omi has practiced the prototype of this approach and seen tangible results.

1. Children as protagonists: A middle-school idea led to hamanasu (Rosa rugosa) cosmetics becoming real products—children’s voices kept turning into ventures.
2. Pride and return migration: Students who left town formed the “Urahoro Club,” grew proud of their hometown, and more considered U-turns or settling.
3. New jobs and flows of people: A regional trading company was established; newcomers moved in, and the town was revitalized.

When adults face children’s voices in earnest, both children and adults grow—communities regain hope and pride. This experience is our origin and conviction.

Why Call It an “Adult” Challenge?

The future is not ours; it belongs to children. What kind of society are we handing over?

We earnestly want to build a society where children can say, “We’re glad we inherited this.”

To do that, adults must start by listening. Each drawing holds candid wishes and unique perspectives. Receiving, analyzing, and studying each one becomes a compass toward the future we should create.

This is not about collecting pictures. It is the start of a movement that spreads a vision—placing the next generation’s aspirations at society’s base and expanding a circle of adults who act.

As a reward in this crowdfunding, we also offer opportunities to join school-based workshops where children draw their ideal future. We hope supporters will bring similar activities to their own communities.

Our goal—reaching 100 million children in 10 years—is vast. Existing systems alone are not enough. We need each person who resonates with this vision to help take the first big step.

Your support will be used carefully as initial activity funds in Japan and Africa. With like-minded partners, we aim to create a global movement that amplifies children’s voices into societal change.

Use of funds (Total: JPY 5,000,000)

1) Activities in Japan (Hokkaido / Tokyo / Osaka): JPY 1,000,000

1. Travel: Shinkansen, flights, etc.
2. Venue: Facility rentals for events and workshops.
3. Accommodation: For staff and instructors.
4. Materials & equipment: Displays, teaching materials, and gear.

2) Activities overseas (Mali + 1 additional country): JPY 4,000,000

1. Airfare & transfers for workshops/events.
2. Local stay: Lodging, meals, local transport.
3. On-site operations: Facility rental, staffing, honoraria.
4. Cultural exchange: Programs with children and local cultural experiences.

If we fall short of the target, we will prioritize domestic activities and still execute the project, covering any shortfall with our own funds. We will not stop this challenge.
